“Isabella Rhapsody” for Wind Ensemble Just Posted On My Website
Back in 2003, I wrote a piece for brass band called “Isabella Rhapsody”—a rhapsodic set of variations based on the popular Christmas carol, “Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella.”
It was never performed, and I’ve had pending for many years to adapt the piece for wind ensemble, which I felt would add some “technicolor glory” to an original “black and white” production. (Wind ensemble is a much more colorful ensemble than the somewhat homogenous-sounding British brass band.)
I’m happy to announce that, other than some minor editing and creating the parts (which I will do once a premiere is set), it is now complete.
It is 4 1/2 minutes long, and I believe could be handled by a decent high school band with diligent practice. There are some tricky time changes, but once understood, it’s easy to “feel” it.
I believe the piece would represent a bold, yet festive choice for a Christmas program. Premiere rights are available for the work. Take a listen here.
